A Good Night’s Sleep
Fangirl Friday is late again, this time because I had insomnia Thursday night resulting in a zombified state all day Friday. For those without sleep disorders let me tell you that nothing in the world is better than a good night’s sleep. Remember Macbeth saying “Sleep which knits the raveled sleeve of care”? Well it does a lot more than that including sweeping the crud out of your brain that builds up until you have Alzheimer’s from it.
After only one sleepless night I had trouble finding the words I wanted, and difficulty driving a short distance to the car dealership where I had an appointment to get work done on my car. ONE night. Before my sleep disorders (yes two) were diagnosed I was in a perpetual state of stupor and didn’t even know it because it had been completely normal to me. One pill and a CPAP machine later I had my first real night’s sleep and I felt like a million dollars.
Remember Michael Jackson dying from anesthesia that he was taking just so he could get some sleep? People were all “I don’t understand why he did that” and I’m here to tell you I do understand. Sleep deprivation that goes on and on generates a desperation that you can’t understand until it happens to you. There’s a reason it counts as torture under international law.
If you don’t feel good when you wake up in the morning, you might be sleeping wrong like I used to. A baseline sleep study could change your life. It’s worth pursuing. Shout out to Doctor Hasan who literally saved my life!
