Sometimes when current events are overwhelming the antidote is completely frivolous whimsy. Luckily for me this week I was treated to a showing of The Return of Captain Invincible. This 1983 “gem” is the story of a superhero who was once great, then got thrown under the bus during the Red Scare, but is now returning in the world’s hour of need. I know what you’re saying to yourself – What’s whimsical about that, Joan?

The Hero is played by Alan Arkin. The Villain is played by Christopher Lee. And it is a MUSICAL.

Truly a masterpiece of so bad it’s good. I can’t remember the last time I laughed that hard. Give yourself a treat and find a way to watch this grade A piece of B movie!
