The Spooky Romantasies of Stephanie Burgis
I recently picked up a copy of Good Neighbors by Stephanie Burgis. Believe it or not it’s a love story where the object of affection is a necromancer – and it was terrific! I liked it so much I immediately read through the sequel Dangerous Flames (Two necromancers) and also an unrelated love story about a human and a reclusive vampire called A Marriage of Undead Inconvenience.
There’s something terribly comforting in stories about monsters feeling love, and being loved in return. It both makes the monsters less scary, and also gives us the courage to look for love ourselves. If someone could love a necromancer, then maybe there’s hope for me is a message worth taking to heart.
Stephanie is a prolific writer. I am also a fan of her Snowspelled series and her Regency Dragons series. I highly recommend you familiarize yourself with her outstanding work.
