I love Jason Stamos and will see him in anything so when I had some time on my hands yesterday I went to see The Beekeeper. It’s a very straightforward revenge film with a good cast and of course outstanding action sequences.

There’s a lot of commentary about greed and corruption, but what is notably absent is an unnecessary romantic subplot. What a relief! Not every story is a love story and it’s wonderful when someone in Hollywood remembers that and produces a pure bit of genre gold.

The cast was full of happy surprises such as Phylicia Rashad (the mom from the Cosby show), Jeremy Irons (always a favorite), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Umbrella Academy), Jemma Redgrave (Dr. Who), and a small cameo by Minnie Driver. A new (to me) face that I enjoyed and hope to see get more work soon was Bobby Naderi.

Raver-Lampman and Naderi play FBI agents that are partners and their buddy chemistry was strong and seemingly effortless. I’d watch a spin-off with them in a heartbeat.
