When the Moon Hits Your Eye

The best hubby in the world gave me a copy of John Scalzi‘s latest book When the Moon Hits Your Eye and I devoured it. The premise is suddenly and with no explanation the moon we all know and love is replaced with a different moon made entirely of cheese. It’s not a book about how it became cheese. Rather, it’s a book about how everyone deals with this change.

As one might imagine there are many lenses through which to observe this phenomena. There is a big difference between how scientists react versus religious folk, businessmen, or Hollywood to name a few examples. The book is essentially a series of vignettes with some characters recurring throughout the book and some are just there and gone in a succinct chapter. ALL of it is good – both entertaining and well thought out.

Scalzi has described this book as part of his “conceptual trilogy” which includes The Kaiju Preservation Society and Starter Villain. I think it’s safe to say if you liked either of those books you will also enjoy When the Moon Hits Your Eye. And if you haven’t read those books I highly recommend them as well. Go ahead, treat yourself.
