Fancy Drinks
I’m a sucker for fancy drinks. Ask me if I want a glass of wine and I’ll think about whether I really want the calories and alcohol before making my decision. Ask me if I want a lemon basil gin sour and I’ll jump in with both feet just to see what it tastes like. Recently, I’ve become obsessed with drinks that include egg whites.
Just to be clear, I’m not talking about bits of cooked egg whites, I’m talking about raw egg whites. When you add them into a shaker and do the shaken-not-stirred thing it becomes a frothy white foam. It makes your cocktail into a sort of cappuccino. What can I say, I’m fixated on texture.
Two cocktails hold a special place in my heart. The Aromatherapy is Empress Gin (purple) with lavender honey syrup, lemon, and egg white. It looks like this…
And the Nectar of the Gods is gin, St. Germain, Cointreau, cucumber, basil, simple syrup and lime. It looks like this:
Who knows, maybe later in the year I’ll be into mojitos and other warm weather cocktails (looking at you Dark and Stormy) but for now the eggy drinks are really doing it for me.
