I subscribe to a lot of feeds regarding free or cheap ebooks. Sometimes they’re bad, sometimes they’re good, and sometimes you realize you’re going to be handing this author your money for years to come. The Ballad of Smallhope and Pennyroyal by Jodi Taylor falls firmly into the “take my money” category. It starts out as a family drama/heist story then takes a sharp left at Albuquerque which I will absolutely not spoil.

In a book rife with villains the anti-heroes are the good guys in this fast paced and supremely snarky book. You can’t help falling in love with the plucky MC and her grumpy partner. I simply can’t wait to see what kinds of trouble these two get up to next book. Well played Ms. Taylor, I’m going to be paying for this free book for years to come.
